Kazakhstan, U.S. Explore Expanded Cooperation in Critical Minerals and Economic Sectors

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: Alibek Kuantyrov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, held a meeting with Jacob Helberg, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, during his working visit to the United States, according to the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Washington.

The two sides engaged in substantive discussions on the current state and future prospects of trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States. Particular focus was placed on collaboration in the mining sector, including the extraction and advanced processing of critical and rare earth minerals.

Both officials also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in transport and logistics infrastructure, as well as in digital technologies, highlighting the growing importance of innovation-driven partnerships in bilateral relations.

Special emphasis was given to the implementation of agreements reached during recent visits by Kazakhstan’s leadership, including engagements by the Head of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the United States.

As part of efforts to deepen sectoral collaboration, the Kazakh side invited Under Secretary Helberg to participate in the upcoming Astana Mining & Metallurgy Congress and the inaugural C5+1 Critical Minerals Dialogue, both scheduled to take place in June in Astana.

The U.S. side welcomed the invitation and expressed strong interest in attending, indicating plans to send a high-level delegation to Kazakhstan.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation and maintaining constructive dialogue across key economic sectors.
