Khujand Showcases Development Achievements During Culture Day in Dushanbe
Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The Culture Day of Khujand City was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Sadriddin Ayni Culture and Recreation Park in Dushanbe, where the city’s achievements over the past 35 years of Tajikistan’s independence were presented to residents and visitors of the capital.
The event featured exhibitions and sales of agricultural products, traditional handicrafts, and displays highlighting accomplishments in education, healthcare, sports, industry and agriculture. Locally produced goods and examples of traditional craftsmanship were also showcased, reflecting Khujand’s economic and cultural progress.
Guests toured the exhibition pavilions, gaining first-hand insight into the city’s economic development, cultural heritage and investment potential. Organisers noted that the Culture Days of cities and districts held in Dushanbe provide an important platform for promoting regional achievements, economic opportunities and the country’s rich national culture.
The celebrations also included a vibrant cultural programme featuring renowned performers and artists, who entertained audiences with traditional songs, folk dances, national music and theatrical performances, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Khujand, the administrative centre of Sughd Province, is Tajikistan’s second-largest city by population and one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. Historically situated along the ancient Silk Road, the city has long served as a major centre of trade connecting Asia and Europe. Ancient historians referred to Khujand as the “Adornment of the World” and the “Bride of the Age,” praising its rich cultural traditions and educated population.
Today, Khujand remains one of Tajikistan’s leading tourist destinations, attracting domestic and international visitors with its historical monuments and cultural landmarks. The city currently has 11 tourism institutions working to promote its attractions and support the development of the tourism sector.
As part of preparations for the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, authorities have completed the construction of 1,015 new facilities in Khujand, reflecting the city’s ongoing infrastructure and urban development.
The event formed part of a nationwide programme marking the independence anniversary, under which Culture Days of cities and districts have been held every weekend in Dushanbe’s public parks since June 6, celebrating the country’s regional diversity and development achievements.
