Ministry seeks to raise allowance for social security families in Oman

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Social Development seeks to raise the allowances for social security families and hopes that a proposal submitted by the Ministry to the government in this regard will be approved.

Her Excellency Laila Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development, said: “The ministry has worked on a proposal to raise the allowances for social security families and it has been submitted to the competent authorities and it is under study, and we hope that it will be accepted, and there is a serious effort from the ministry in this aspect.”

“The system related to security and the Social Security Law has undergone many amendments and developments during the past years, but this system needs to be developed and changed to suit the variables and lifestyle. The Ministry has worked on studying many provisions of the current Social Security Law and these changes have been raised to target other groups and amend entitlements in the next stage,” His Excellency added in the weekly talk show, with Shabab, on Oman TV.

Her Excellency affirmed that the social protection system is a basic requirement in all countries, and its presence is evidence that this role is not limited to one government agency, but rather is a national system in which the roles of several government agencies overlap as well as the private sector and partnership by the civil society.

Her Excellency pointed out that the role of the Ministry of Social Development, being one of the parties in this system, overlaps with the roles of several parties in setting the procedural steps for them, according to what is hoped to achieve the goals of this system.

Her Excellency explained that the most important goals of the social system is to target the groups most in need of support through the presence of many programmes, whether through cash contributions or subscriptions to the Social Protection Fund.
