Numan Kurtulmuş Reelected as Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The Turkish Grand National Assembly on Tuesday reelected Numan Kurtulmuş, a deputy from Istanbul representing the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, as Speaker of Parliament for a second term.
In the third round of voting, Kurtulmuş secured 320 votes out of 529 ballots cast, comfortably surpassing the required absolute majority of 301. His reelection confirms continued parliamentary support for his leadership in overseeing legislative affairs.
Opposition candidates received the following vote counts: Republican People’s Party (CHP) nominee Uğur Bayraktutan garnered 118 votes, while the İYİ (Good) Party’s Mustafa Cihan Paçacı and the New Path Party’s Mehmet Karaman each received 26 votes. Osman Cengiz Çandar of the DEM Party secured 18 votes. One vote was left blank and 11 were declared invalid.
Following the announcement of the results, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received Speaker Kurtulmuş at the Presidential Complex in Ankara to offer his congratulations. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz also extended formal congratulations on behalf of the executive leadership.
Numan Kurtulmuş was first elected as Speaker of the Grand National Assembly on June 7, 2023. Having completed his initial two-year term, his reelection signals both parliamentary continuity and political stability within the legislative arm of government.
As Speaker, Kurtulmuş is expected to continue playing a key role in guiding legislative debates, ensuring parliamentary order, and representing the assembly in national and international affairs.
