Omani FM Al Busaidi Urges Swift Action for Palestinian Statehood"

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: His Excellency Sayyed Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the critical importance of establishing a Palestinian state, declaring it an existential necessity to prevent the continuous threat of destitution, extermination, and death faced by the Palestinian people.

Addressing a distinguished audience at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, His Excellency delivered a comprehensive lecture titled “Talking with Everyone for the Interest of Everyone: Diplomacy in a Multipolar World.” The lecture covered the Palestinian issue, historical developments, and the obstacles hindering a comprehensive settlement based on the two-state solution.

His Excellency highlighted the urgent need for a permanent solution guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state to alleviate the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people. He stressed the necessity of convening an international conference, uniting global stakeholders to reach executive agreements for a swift and effective resolution.

“A solution to the Palestinian issue can and must be reached, but to achieve this, there must be a shift in thinking,” stated His Excellency. He urged for a departure from Cold War mentalities, emphasizing the importance of engaging in dialogue with all parties involved, including those traditionally viewed as adversaries.

Recognizing the enduring sectarian divisions in the region, His Excellency underscored that establishing a Palestinian state is crucial to addressing these challenges. He argued that the two-state solution is not only a first step but a necessity in a broader process of regional transformation.

In proposing a roadmap for the two-state solution, His Excellency called for the immediate establishment of an international conference. This conference, inclusive of all segments of Palestinian society, must develop necessary arrangements and mechanisms for the implementation of a Palestinian state. Notably, he advocated for the active participation of all concerned parties, including Hamas, and the presence of global leaders representing the majority.

Additionally, His Excellency highlighted the imperative to abolish the veto power in the United Nations Security Council, citing the need for a more inclusive decision-making process in managing international relations. He called for the reform of international institutions to address current challenges rather than focusing on outdated problems.

In conclusion, His Excellency emphasized that collective and urgent action is required to establish a Palestinian state, ensuring the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and aligning with the will of the international community.
