2nd COAS Inter-Club Hockey Championship

Lahore, The Gulf Observer: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced the commencement of the 2nd Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Inter-Club Hockey Championship, set to kick off on December 20, 2024. This initiative aims to revitalize the national sport and uncover raw talent across the country.

Addressing a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday, PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid revealed that approximately 800 clubs from all over Pakistan will participate in the championship. The registration process will take place from December 11 to 15, followed by a scrutiny process conducted by provincial hockey associations until December 18.

The championship will progress in four stages:

  1. District Level Matches (December 20 – January 5) – Clubs from across Pakistan will compete in local matches.
  2. Divisional and Regional Matches (January 8 – 13) – Teams advancing from district-level competitions will vie for regional titles.
  3. Provincial Matches (January 15 – 22) – Provincial competitions will determine the top-performing teams.
  4. National Level Matches (February 8 – 15) – The final stage will see 10 qualifying teams compete at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore.

The final will take place on February 15, 2025.

The qualification criteria for the national stage include four teams from Punjab, two each from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and one team each from Baluchistan, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

Flanked by Pakistan Men’s Hockey Head Coach Tahir Zaman and Olympians Asif Bajwa and Anjum Saeed, Rana Mujahid expressed gratitude to Chief of the Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir for his support in promoting hockey.

“The 2nd COAS Inter-Club Hockey Championship is an opportunity to discover and nurture young talent so they can contribute to the future of Pakistan hockey,” said Mujahid.
