Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Sunday said the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13 provides an important opportunity for international guests to gain a deeper understanding of Azerbaijan’s urban development and architectural transformation.

Addressing the opening ceremony of WUF13 in Baku, President Aliyev expressed hope that participants visiting Azerbaijan for the first time would be able to closely observe the country’s achievements in urban planning and infrastructure development.

“I think that during these days in Baku, many of our guests, who visited us for the first time, will have opportunity to know our country, our city better, and to see with their own eyes what is being done in Azerbaijan with respect to urban development,” the president said.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s unique geographical position, President Aliyev noted that the country is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, adding that this cultural and geographical blend is also reflected in Azerbaijan’s architecture.

The World Urban Forum, organized by UN-Habitat, serves as a global platform for dialogue on sustainable urbanization, housing and inclusive city development.
