Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to establishing lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, highlighting recent diplomatic achievements and regional connectivity initiatives as key drivers of a new era of cooperation.

In a message addressed to participants of the international conference titled “Regional Contribution to Global Security: Peacebuilding in the South Caucasus,” held in Shusha, President Aliyev said Azerbaijan is pursuing a consistent and determined policy aimed at fostering a sustainable environment of peace and stability throughout the region.

The Azerbaijani leader noted that the signing of the Joint Declaration between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington last year, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, along with the initialing of a peace agreement, has fundamentally transformed the geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus.

According to President Aliyev, these developments have created new opportunities for regional cooperation and long-term stability, paving the way for enhanced economic integration and connectivity.

He also highlighted the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor, describing it as a strategic transport route that will connect Azerbaijan’s mainland with its Nakhchivan region while serving as a key segment of the Middle Corridor, an important Eurasian trade and transportation network.

President Aliyev emphasized that the corridor is expected to strengthen regional links, facilitate international trade, and contribute to broader economic development across the South Caucasus and beyond.

The conference in Shusha brought together officials, experts, and policymakers to discuss peacebuilding efforts and the region’s contribution to global security amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
