President of Tajikistan Appoints New Head of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has issued two presidential decrees concerning the leadership of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
Under Presidential Decree No. 1194, signed on July 18, 2026, Alisher Khudoberdi Mirzonabot was officially relieved of his duties as Chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region following his death. The decree was issued in accordance with Article 69 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan.
In a separate Presidential Decree No. 1195, also signed on July 18, 2026, President Rahmon appointed Sharifkhon Nurahmad Safarzoda as the new Chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The appointment was made under the authority granted by Article 69 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan, ensuring continuity in the administration of the country’s eastern autonomous region following the passing of its former governor.
