Qatar and UK Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Gaza Ceasefire Implementation

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a telephone conversation on Saturday with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, HE David Lammy, to discuss a range of bilateral and regional matters.

The two leaders focused on enhancing cooperation between Qatar and the UK, exploring ways to advance and deepen the partnership between the two nations. They also reviewed the ongoing preparations for the upcoming edition of the Qatari-British Strategic Dialogue, which is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.

In addition to strengthening bilateral relations, the conversation also covered key regional issues, notably the ongoing efforts to ensure the comprehensive implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. This included discussions on the exchange of detainees and prisoners, which remains a critical element of the ceasefire process.

During the call, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and emphasized the importance of both parties upholding their obligations to ensure its success.

For his part, Foreign Secretary Lammy expressed the UK’s appreciation for Qatar’s instrumental role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement, recognizing the country’s pivotal contributions to achieving the deal and its ongoing efforts to support peace and stability in the region.

The leaders also exchanged views on the latest developments in Syria, highlighting their shared commitment to addressing the ongoing challenges facing the region.

This conversation underscores the strong and growing partnership between Qatar and the UK, with both nations continuing to play a proactive role in international diplomacy and conflict resolution.
