Riyadh Metro Completes Phased Rollout with Orange Line Operation
Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced the full operationalization of the Riyadh Metro network with the launch of the Orange Line (Line 3) on Sunday, January 5. This milestone marks the culmination of the phased rollout of the city’s six-line metro system.
The Orange Line, which traverses Madinah Road, connects the eastern and western parts of Riyadh. Spanning a total length of 41 kilometers, it extends from Jeddah Road in the west to the second eastern ring road near Khashm Al-Aan. This development completes the ambitious Riyadh Metro network project, inaugurated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on November 27, 2024.
The RCRC stated that passengers can board the Orange Line starting at 6:00 am on January 5 at five key stations: Jeddah Road Station, Tuwaiq Station, Douh Station, Harun Al-Rashid Road Station, and Al-Naseem Station. Al-Naseem Station also serves as a transfer point connecting the Orange Line with the Purple Line.
In addition to the Orange Line, three new stations on the Blue Line (Line 1) will also become operational. These include Al-Morooj Station, Bank Al-Bilad Station, and King Fahd Library Station, further enhancing connectivity within the city.
The phased rollout began on December 1, with the initial operation of the Blue Line, Yellow Line (Line 4), and Purple Line. Subsequently, the Red Line (Line 2) and Green Line (Line 5) became operational on December 15. With all six lines now active, the Riyadh Metro network spans 176 kilometers, featuring 85 stations, including four major hubs.
The Riyadh Metro, the largest in the Middle East and the longest driverless train system in the world, is set to significantly enhance urban mobility, offering residents and visitors an efficient and sustainable transportation solution.
Passengers can plan their journeys and purchase tickets via the Darb application, ticket offices, self-service kiosks at stations, or using digital payment methods, including bank cards, smartphones, and smart devices.
The metro operates daily from 6:00 am to midnight. For further information, the public can contact the unified call center at 19933, visit the Riyadh Public Transport website at www.rpt.sa, or follow official social media channels.
