Royal Navy of Oman Hosts Ceremony to Honour Winners of the 12th Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing

A Coruña, The Gulf Observer: The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) held a prestigious ceremony on Sunday in the city of A Coruña, Spain, to honor the winners of the 12th edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of sailing, with a focus on fostering international cooperation, youth development, and the spirit of friendship through maritime training.

The British ship Excelsior was awarded the Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing 2024 for its exemplary role in promoting international principles of friendship and conducting a pioneering sail training program. The program, which benefits young people aged 15 to 26, combines theoretical education with practical field applications, offering trainees valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills and acquire essential maritime knowledge.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished figures including Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York; Commodore Ali bin Mohammed Al Hosni, Commander of the Said bin Sultan Naval Base; and RNO officers. Also present were representatives from Sail Training International (STI) and various individuals and organizations dedicated to the advancement of sailing.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing is a prestigious international accolade that serves to promote the values of peace and coexistence through maritime activities. It also celebrates Oman’s rich maritime heritage and underscores the role of sailors in strengthening cultural relations between the Sultanate of Oman and countries across the globe.
