Saudi Arabia Contributes to First International AI Safety Report

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) played a key role in the preparation of the first-ever international report on artificial intelligence (AI) safety, issued in collaboration with 30 countries, the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The report, aimed at assessing the risks and challenges associated with the development of AI technologies globally, includes a set of recommendations from Saudi Arabia on digital governance policies. These recommendations emphasize the need to strike a balance between innovation and responsibility in the development of AI technologies, ensuring their accuracy and suitability to address current and future challenges.
Saudi Arabia’s involvement underscores its commitment to the safe and responsible use of AI, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The Kingdom’s participation also reflects its active role in shaping global policies to support AI sector governance and enhancing digital governance in cooperation with international partners.
The report highlights several prominent issues, including job displacement due to automation, environmental concerns from AI-driven energy consumption, cybersecurity threats, potential hacks, and the spread of deep-fakes and their societal impacts. It stresses the importance of adopting proactive measures to address these challenges and ensure that AI technologies are developed and used ethically and responsibly, in line with global standards.
Saudi Arabia’s contributions to the report further solidify its position as a key player in the international dialogue on AI safety and governance.
