Second Meeting of Myanmar’s Agricultural and Livestock Development Commission Emphasizes Industry Growth and Innovation

Yezin, The Gulf Observer: The second meeting of the Agricultural and Livestock Development Commission was held yesterday afternoon at the Department of Agricultural Research (Yezin). The meeting was attended online by Chairman General Nyo Saw, commission members, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, and relevant officials. Chief ministers, ministers of state and regional governments, and representatives from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) were also present.
During the meeting, Chairman General Nyo Saw highlighted the critical role of agro-based industries in driving economic growth and improving the well-being of Myanmar’s people. He underscored the necessity of establishing agriculture, livestock, and industrial high schools to cultivate a skilled workforce. He also emphasized transitioning from traditional farming methods to a more systematic approach, requiring enhanced training and education.
The chairman called for collaboration among regions and states to produce skilled human resources in agriculture and livestock breeding. He stressed that Myanmar possesses a strong economic foundation and that enhancing agricultural and livestock industries is essential for national economic progress. Additionally, he advocated for the establishment of livestock breeding development zones tailored to regional conditions.
Addressing water resource management, he urged the use of rainwater, dam water, underground water, and river water for agricultural irrigation. He also proposed implementing water-pumping projects in river-adjacent areas and leveraging solar energy for power generation. He highlighted that both government and private sector initiatives in solar energy could help meet the industry’s electricity demands.
Regarding investment, Chairman General Nyo Saw assured financial support, including project loans, to facilitate the sector’s growth. He called for streamlined investment approval processes for domestic and foreign investors in agriculture and livestock industries. The provision of essential technologies, electricity, and capital was deemed crucial for sustaining agro-based industries.
He further stressed that the 21 key responsibilities of the Agricultural and Livestock Development Commission must be closely coordinated with ministries and regional governments. Ministries, departments, and regional authorities were encouraged to provide feedback and collaborate to execute these responsibilities efficiently.
Following the meeting, Chairman General Nyo Saw inspected the model farms and research plantations at the Department of Agricultural Research, where a triple-cropping system is currently being tested. The director-general of the Department of Agricultural Research and the Department of Livestock Research briefed him on their ongoing and future research initiatives. He also visited seed sample exhibition halls, seed banks, and agricultural technology dissemination facilities, concluding his visit at the farmer education and agricultural broadcasting television studio, where he provided further guidance on advancing the sector.
