Dubai, The Gulf Observer: In a prestigious ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, honoured winning athletes and teams of the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament. This 12th edition of the tournament, organised by the Dubai Sports Council under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, saw over 1,200 athletes competing across eight disciplines. Teams from government and private sectors came together, showcasing the strong support for women’s sports in Dubai.

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor praised Her Highness Sheikha Hind’s patronage of the event, emphasizing her role in empowering Emirati women. “This tournament is dedicated to women, and we take pride in their achievements, striving to empower them in all pursuits,” he said, acknowledging the UAE leadership’s commitment to supporting women’s contributions across sectors.

Athletes and teams from Dubai Police emerged as the top performers, winning 18 medals and claiming the General Excellence Shield. Zakia Darwish and Samantha Shaimali took first place in the citizen and resident categories of bowling, respectively, while other Dubai Police athletes excelled across events, including cycling, shooting, and the 3×3 basketball championship.

Apart from Dubai Police, other entities achieved notable successes, with athletes from Emirates Airlines, Dubai Municipality, and the Roads and Transport Authority securing top spots across categories. Mira Shabib and Reem Jamal from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs placed in the citizen’s bowling category, while Emirates Airlines’ Hessa Al Jasmi won the running race for citizens.

The event also honoured tournament sponsors and partners, including Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and Emirates Airlines. His Highness Sheikh Mansoor congratulated all participants, emphasizing that engaging in sports is a victory in itself, and expressed hopes for even greater accomplishments in future editions.
