Chinese Premier Li Qiang and ADB President Discuss Enhanced Cooperation in Development and Sustainability
Kunming, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa on Wednesday, expressing hopes for continued collaboration to drive development and expand cooperative efforts. The meeting took place during the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
Li highlighted China’s position as the world’s largest developing country and praised the ADB’s commitment to advancing growth throughout Asia and the Pacific. He underscored China’s readiness to deepen financial partnerships with the ADB in areas such as environmental protection, green and low-carbon development, elderly and medical care. Additionally, Li emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, particularly in fields like emerging industry development, fiscal and tax reform, and addressing demographic shifts.
China aims to leverage the ADB platform to share its expertise in poverty reduction, digital transformation, and sustainable development, supporting other developing countries in achieving their growth objectives. The Premier affirmed China’s commitment to the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program, promising to work alongside all participating nations to foster regional prosperity.
The ADB President echoed these sentiments, recognizing China’s economic stability and growth as crucial to the broader Asia-Pacific recovery. Asakawa reiterated the ADB’s commitment to supporting China’s high-quality development, emphasizing future collaborations in green energy, climate resilience, biodiversity, and energy transition.
Both leaders expressed a shared dedication to free trade and an opposition to protectionism, pledging to achieve practical outcomes through their cooperative efforts in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
