South African President Ramaphosa to Address Nation on Migration Strategy Amid Rising Protests
Pretoria, The Gulf Observer: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation on Sunday evening to outline the government’s comprehensive strategy for managing migration and responding to growing concerns over illegal immigration.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the address will take place at 6:00 p.m. from the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa will this evening address the nation on the government’s management approach to illegal migration and the recent surge in protests against foreign nationals,” the Presidency said.
The national address comes amid increasing public demonstrations related to undocumented migration and ahead of a June 30 deadline set for undocumented foreign nationals to regularize their status or leave the country.
Speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing on Friday, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni emphasized that the government does not anticipate any nationwide shutdown despite ongoing protests.
Ntshavheni announced that Cabinet had approved a comprehensive migration management framework developed by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Migration. The Cabinet also endorsed the National Action Plan (NAP) and a country report examining migration trends and challenges in South Africa.

She noted that further details regarding the government’s strategy would be communicated directly by the president during his address.

Authorities have emphasized the need for a balanced approach that upholds the rule of law while ensuring social stability and protecting human rights.
Political analysts expect President Ramaphosa’s address to provide greater clarity on the government’s plans to strengthen migration management, address public concerns, and outline measures aimed at maintaining social cohesion amid rising tensions.
