Avaza, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has called for enhanced cooperation among member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in technology, innovation, digitalisation, trade, investment, renewable energy and regional security.
According to Tajikistan’s national news agency, President Rahmon made these remarks while participating in and addressing the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan on October 9.
At the outset of his address, the Tajik president thanked Turkmenistan for the high standard of organisation and traditional hospitality extended to the participating delegations. He also congratulated the Turkmen leadership on the successful completion of its CIS chairmanship and praised its efforts in this capacity.
Describing the meeting as particularly symbolic in view of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS, Rahmon said the experience gained over the past decades had demonstrated the importance of the organisation as a platform for political dialogue, economic and humanitarian cooperation, and coordinated responses to security challenges and threats.
He highlighted the solid legal framework established to expand the CIS’s multilateral cooperation agenda, expressing satisfaction that the organisation continued to adapt to changing circumstances and strengthen cooperation in response to emerging realities.
The president emphasised the importance of developing technological cooperation, promoting innovation and digitalisation, advancing artificial intelligence and supporting the green economy. He also called for the implementation of concrete projects in renewable energy.
Rahmon further stressed the need to strengthen transport connectivity and maintain sustained attention to trade, economic, investment and industrial cooperation among CIS member states.
He also underscored the importance of enhanced security cooperation in addressing shared regional challenges and promoting stability.
During his address, the Tajik leader highlighted his country’s initiative to declare 2027–2036 the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations, which has received support from the international community.
He announced that Tajikistan, in cooperation with the United Nations and other international partners, planned to host a high-level international conference in Dushanbe in June 2027 to formally launch the decade.
Rahmon emphasised that the active participation of CIS countries in the conference and their contribution to implementing the decade’s objectives would serve as another demonstration of solidarity among member states.
Concluding his address, the Tajik president expressed support for the decisions to be adopted at the meeting and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to continuing constructive multilateral cooperation within the CIS framework.
