Tajikistan Joins Advisory Centre on WTO Law to Bolster Global Trade Expertise

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The Republic of Tajikistan has officially become a member of the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL), a strategic move aimed at reinforcing the nation’s legal standing and technical proficiency within the global multilateral trading system.
The protocol on accession was signed in Geneva by Sharaf Sheralizoda, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the U.N., and Niall Meagher, Executive Director of the ACWL. According to reports from the Khovar news agency, the agreement was finalized at the Tajik embassy in Switzerland.
Empowering Tajikistan’s Trade Position
By joining the ACWL, Tajikistan secures access to high-level legal resources tailored to the rules and procedures of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This membership provides the country with:
- Dispute Settlement Support: Professional legal assistance in navigating and resolving international trade disputes.
- Strategic Legal Development: Expert guidance in crafting robust legal positions for international trade negotiations.
- Capacity Building: Specialized training programs designed to elevate the expertise of national trade specialists.
A Milestone for Central Asia
Tajikistan’s entry makes it only the second country in Central Asia to join the organization, following Kazakhstan.
Established in 2001, the ACWL is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to providing legal counsel and capacity-building services to developing and least-developed countries. For Tajikistan, which has been a WTO member since 2013, this accession represents a significant step in narrowing the technical gap and ensuring its trade interests are effectively defended on the world stage.
