Tajikistan Promotes New Industrial Cooperation Frameworks at CIS Council Meeting

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The 12th meeting of the Industrial Policy Council of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on May 29, bringing together representatives of member countries, the CIS Executive Committee, and scientific and educational institutions from across the region.

According to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, the Tajik delegation was headed by First Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Isodjon Qurbonzoda.

During the meeting, the head of the Tajik delegation presented a report on the outcomes of Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS Industrial Policy Council. At the conclusion of the session, the chairmanship was officially transferred to Kazakhstan.

The meeting agenda covered a broad range of issues related to strengthening industrial cooperation among CIS member states. Participants reviewed initiatives aimed at enhancing collaboration across key industrial sectors and fostering technological development throughout the region.

A significant focus of the discussions was the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation among CIS Member States in the Development of Heavy Engineering Industries, proposed by Tajikistan during its chairmanship. Council members considered and approved a draft package of measures designed to facilitate the agreement’s implementation.

At the initiative of Tajikistan, the Council also reviewed a draft Agreement on Cooperation in the Food Industry among CIS member states. The proposed framework envisages cooperation in the development and introduction of equipment for food production and processing, the establishment of scientific and educational centers to support applied research and technological innovation, and the exchange of expertise in the digitalization and automation of food industry production processes.

The agreement further promotes collaboration in innovation and the development of specialized food products, reflecting the growing importance of advanced technologies in the sector.

Council members also adopted decisions regarding the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Development of Civil Shipbuilding and Equipment Manufacturing, signed on December 12, 2024. In addition, they reviewed and approved measures related to the draft Concept for Cooperation among CIS countries in the development of the electronics industry and the corresponding action plan for its implementation.

Representatives of the Council’s affiliated institutions presented reports on their activities for 2025–2026 and outlined future plans for training and professional development of industrial specialists across CIS member states.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed that the next session of the CIS Industrial Policy Council will be held in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2027.
