Tehran Hosts Conference on Cultural Diplomacy with SCO Public Diplomacy Center Director in Attendance
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: The Director of the Public Diplomacy Center of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Uzbekistan, Qabuljon Sabirov, visited Tehran to promote the organization’s initiatives among new members. During his visit, he participated in the International Conference “The Role of Cultural Diplomacy in Economic Development,” organized by the Maku Free Trade-Industrial Zone of the Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with the International Institute for Cultural Convergence.
The conference brought together approximately 300 attendees, including local specialists and foreign experts from Iraq, Afghanistan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, China, Russia, and Uzbekistan. Members of Uzbekistan’s parliament and representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) were also present.
A plenary session featured a presentation on the activities of the SCO Public Diplomacy Center. The Center’s work, initiated under the guidance of Uzbekistan’s leadership, was praised for fostering friendly relations, mutual trust, and respect among SCO member states while promoting cultural and civilizational diversity.
Participants expressed a strong commitment to further collaboration in various fields, including culture, art, tourism, ecology, translation of historical manuscripts, joint research, exhibitions, concert programs, and the production of feature and documentary films. The event highlighted the growing role of cultural diplomacy as a bridge for economic and social development across the region.
