Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ziya Öztürkler, on Tuesday expressed appreciation to Azerbaijan for hosting the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, while calling for greater unity among Islamic countries in the face of ongoing humanitarian challenges.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the conference in Baku, Öztürkler thanked the “fraternal” Republic of Azerbaijan for assuming the chairmanship of the organization and successfully hosting the gathering.

He also highlighted the importance of trilateral parliamentary cooperation among Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, noting that the third meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups of the three sides, held in Baku last year, had made a significant contribution to strengthening their brotherly relations.

Addressing broader challenges facing the Muslim world, the TRNC parliamentary speaker expressed concern over the severe humanitarian crises affecting many regions across Islamic countries.

Öztürkler stressed that the current situation requires greater solidarity and collective action among OIC member states.

“In the face of these challenges, Islamic countries must stand united, speak with one voice and one heart, demonstrate a common, strong and determined will, and act together,” he said.

The conference brought together parliamentary leaders and representatives from OIC member states to discuss issues of common interest and ways to enhance cooperation across the Islamic world.
