Turkmenistan, Algeria Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova held a meeting with Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Turkmenistan Boumediene Guennad, who presented copies of his credentials, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on July 29, 2026.
Deputy Foreign Minister Byashimova congratulated Ambassador Guennad on his appointment to the diplomatic post and expressed the readiness of the Turkmen side to provide the necessary support and assistance in carrying out his diplomatic mission.
During the talks, the two sides discussed prospects for further developing Turkmenistan-Algeria relations in political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of maintaining regular contacts between the foreign ministries of both countries, as well as strengthening high-level and top-level exchanges to further advance bilateral cooperation.
The diplomats expressed support for enhancing interparliamentary cooperation and expanding the legal framework governing relations between Turkmenistan and Algeria.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing constructive cooperation within regional and international organizations, particularly the United Nations, with the aim of promoting global peace, stability and sustainable development.
The meeting also addressed opportunities to strengthen trade and economic ties. The parties agreed on the importance of participating in international exhibitions and business forums organized in Ashgabat and Algiers. Agriculture and the textile sector were identified as promising areas for expanding economic cooperation.
The diplomats highlighted the need to broaden cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including through stronger links between the ministries of culture and education, as well as higher education institutions of the two countries. They also discussed opportunities for cooperation in educational programmes, sports and tourism.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Turkmen-Algerian relations and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of shared interest.
