President Ilham Aliyev Receives United World Wrestling President, Discusses Development of Sport

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday received President of United World Wrestling Nenad Lalović, with the two sides discussing the continued development of wrestling in Azerbaijan and prospects for expanding cooperation.
During the meeting, President Aliyev and Nenad Lalović warmly recalled their previous meetings and reviewed the longstanding partnership between Azerbaijan and United World Wrestling.
Lalović expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet the Azerbaijani President and praised the successful organization of the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku. He commended President Aliyev for his continued support of the championship and for his broader contribution to the activities of United World Wrestling.
The UWW President also highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant progress in the development of wrestling, noting that the country has successfully hosted numerous prestigious international wrestling competitions. He praised the productive cooperation between United World Wrestling and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, describing it as an important factor in promoting the sport.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of hosting the U17 World Wrestling Championships, stating that such events play a vital role in nurturing young athletes and contributing to their future success on the international stage.
The Azerbaijani leader also noted the remarkable achievements of the country’s wrestlers over the years, underscoring Azerbaijan’s strong wrestling traditions and the government’s continued efforts to further develop the sport through comprehensive state support.
