Turkmenistan Delegation Participates in CIS Foreign Ministers’ Council and Central Asia–Russia Format Meetings

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: A regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Moscow on April 17, 2026, bringing together top diplomats from member states to review cooperation and address key regional and global issues.
The delegation of Turkmenistan was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov. The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, along with representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.
Held in both narrow and expanded formats, the meeting provided a platform for in-depth discussions on pressing international and regional developments, as well as an assessment of the current state and future prospects of cooperation within the CIS framework. Particular attention was given to activities marking the 35th anniversary of the organization this year.
Highlighting Turkmenistan’s priorities, Ahmet Gurbanov underscored the constructive nature of cooperation within the CIS, noting the significant potential for expanding joint initiatives across multiple sectors.
The ministers also reviewed collaboration among the foreign ministries of member states, including the outcomes of the Plan of Multilevel Inter-Ministerial Consultations and the Action Program for Enhanced Partnership in 2025.
Following the deliberations, the participants adopted a series of decisions aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and broadening cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains.
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in October 2026.
