Turkmenistan Reaffirms Commitment to Green Development at GGGI Meeting in Seoul

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection, Nury Jumashov, participated in the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) ministerial meeting held in Seoul, where global leaders discussed green development strategies and the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the NetZero program. The meeting, reported by official Turkmen media on Friday, underscored Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to contribute to international climate goals.

In his address, Jumashov highlighted Turkmenistan’s proactive measures in maintaining ecological balance, reducing the environmental impact of industrial activities, and promoting clean technologies. He reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s strong commitment to the Paris Agreement and the Global Methane Pledge, both of which are pivotal in the global fight against climate change.

Jumashov also underscored Turkmenistan’s strategic plan to establish a Regional Climate Technology Center in Central Asia, an initiative proposed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedow. This center is expected to play a significant role in fostering climate resilience and accelerating the adoption of green technologies across the region.

During the meeting, the Turkmen delegation held a bilateral discussion with GGGI Chair Ban Ki-moon, who praised Turkmenistan’s support for UN green initiatives and commended the contributions of National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The talks explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation in green technology, sustainable forestry, and environmental conservation.

Ban Ki-moon expressed optimism about expanding joint efforts, particularly in the development of sustainable projects aligned with global environmental goals.

Turkmenistan’s active participation in the GGGI and its ongoing dedication to ecological preservation reinforce the country’s commitment to addressing global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development in the region.
