Turkmenistan, Seychelles Seek to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation Following First Official Visit

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, held talks with Barry Faure, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Seychelles, during the latter’s first official visit to the country on April 29, 2026.

During the meeting in Ashgabat, both sides underscored the importance of the visit as a milestone in advancing bilateral relations across areas of mutual interest. The ministers emphasized the need to intensify political and diplomatic dialogue, highlighting reciprocal high-level visits as a key mechanism for strengthening ties.

The discussions also covered cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations. The Turkmen side expressed appreciation for Seychelles’ support of its international initiatives and extended an invitation to join the Group of Friends of Neutrality.

Both parties stressed the importance of expanding the legal and contractual framework governing bilateral relations. They explored opportunities to enhance trade and economic cooperation through joint business forums, exhibitions, and trade fairs, as well as by fostering direct engagement between the business communities of both countries.

Priority sectors identified for collaboration included transport, the textile industry, and tourism. The ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to constructive engagement on the international stage.

In the cultural and humanitarian domain, the two sides reviewed prospects for cooperation in education, science, and culture. Proposals were put forward to facilitate interaction between relevant ministries and to organize cultural events, including “Days of Culture” in Ashgabat and Victoria.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and further developing friendly relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Seychelles.
