Turkmenistan Showcases Caspian Sea Conservation Initiatives at Global Ocean Dialogue in Seoul
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan presented its environmental initiatives aimed at conserving the Caspian Sea during the fifth meeting of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative Global Dialogue, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from June 30 to July 3.
According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea, the Turkmen delegation was led by Myrat Atajanov, Director of the Caspian Institute of Turkmenistan, Representative of Turkmenistan on Caspian Sea Affairs, and the country’s representative to the Intergovernmental Commission for the Conservation and Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources and Management of Shared Stocks of the Caspian Sea.
During the international forum, the delegation highlighted Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to promote the conservation and sustainable development of the Caspian Sea, with particular emphasis on the importance of regional cooperation in protecting the sea’s unique marine ecosystem, ensuring the sustainable use of aquatic biological resources, and implementing international environmental commitments.
On the sidelines of the event, the Turkmen delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with Deputy Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea Seo Jeongho, Chief of Staff and Director of Strategy, Sustainable Finance and Global Initiatives at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Ferruccio Santetti, and President of Korea Maritime and Ocean University Dr. Ryoo Dong Keun.
The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation related to the Caspian Sea and expanding broader maritime collaboration between the two countries. Discussions covered specialist training, maritime policy and governance, sustainable management of marine and coastal resources, development of the blue economy, and the Republic of Korea’s expertise in maritime governance, coastal zone management, marine research, and sustainable ocean development.
The participation in the global dialogue reflects Turkmenistan’s continued commitment to promoting regional and international cooperation in marine environmental protection and advancing sustainable development initiatives for the Caspian Sea.
