U.S. Defense Official Hails Azerbaijan as Key Geostrategic Partner, Pledges Stronger Cooperation

Geostrategic

Washington, The Gulf Observer: The United States has described Azerbaijan as an important geostrategic partner, citing its strategic location and balanced relations with key regional actors, including Türkiye and Israel.

Speaking at a reception marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and Armed Forces Day, Andrew Loomis said Azerbaijan occupies a significant position in a complex region and plays an important role in regional stability and cooperation.

“Azerbaijan is located in a very complex part of the world. Notably, the country maintains strong relations with both Türkiye and Israel. For all these reasons, we consider Azerbaijan a geostrategic partner,” Loomis said.

The Pentagon official noted that the strong relationship between the two countries was among the reasons behind the signing of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Charter on Strategic Partnership. He emphasized that defense cooperation between Washington and Baku has a long history and remains an important pillar of bilateral relations.

Loomis praised Azerbaijan’s contributions to international security efforts, highlighting the country’s support for U.S.-led operations in Afghanistan over the past two decades.

“For more than 20 years, Azerbaijan has stood alongside the United States. Azerbaijan was one of the last countries to leave Afghanistan,” he said.

He also welcomed Azerbaijan’s participation in professional military education programs and regional military exercises, noting that cooperation between the armed forces of both countries has helped deepen mutual understanding and strengthen long-term ties.

According to Loomis, the two nations are continuing to build a strong foundation for stability and security through ongoing defense collaboration.

“We are building a solid foundation for stability, and we look forward to continuing this cooperation and friendship. I am fully confident that our exceptional partnership will grow even stronger in the years ahead,” he added.

The remarks underscore the continued importance of U.S.-Azerbaijan relations in the fields of defense, security, and regional cooperation amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
