Denpasar, The Gulf Observer: Bali contributed 55 percent of Indonesia’s tourism foreign exchange earnings in 2025, highlighting the island’s continued role as the country’s leading tourism destination, Governor Wayan Koster said on Saturday.

Speaking at the 2026 Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) press conference, Koster stated that Bali generated Rp176 trillion out of the national tourism foreign exchange earnings of Rp320 trillion last year.

The governor noted that Bali welcomed 7.05 million foreign tourists in 2025, accounting for 45.8 percent of the total 15.39 million international visitors who traveled to Indonesia during the year.

According to data from Statistics Indonesia, the average expenditure per foreign tourist in Bali reached US$1,552.44 in 2025. Based on an exchange rate of Rp16,500 per US dollar, the island’s tourism sector generated approximately Rp176 trillion in foreign exchange earnings.

Koster said the figures demonstrated the resilience and strength of Bali’s tourism industry despite various challenges faced throughout the year.

He emphasized that tourism contributed 66 percent of Bali’s economy and supported numerous sectors through the use of locally produced goods by hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions.

The tourism industry also helped drive Bali’s economic growth to 5.82 percent in 2025, making it one of Indonesia’s fastest-growing provinces and the highest-performing province without mining resources.

Koster added that Bali’s per capita income reached Rp72 million, while the poverty rate stood at 1.42 percent and unemployment at 1.45 percent, both the lowest levels in Indonesia.

To sustain Bali’s position as the country’s tourism powerhouse, the provincial government plans to intensify efforts to address waste management, infrastructure development, and traffic congestion.

The governor stressed that tourism benefits farmers, fishermen, artisans, and other local communities, creating broad-based economic gains that extend throughout society.
