UAE Chairs IAEA Meeting, Reinforces Global Leadership in Nuclear and Radiation Regulation

Vienna, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its leadership in strengthening global nuclear and radiation regulatory systems by chairing the 31st Meeting of the Bureau of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Steering Committee on Regulatory Capacity Building at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

The UAE was represented by the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), which led discussions aimed at enhancing international cooperation, developing regulatory capabilities and supporting member states in establishing robust nuclear and radiation safety and security frameworks. The meeting brought together senior regulators and international experts to review progress and identify priorities for future capacity-building initiatives.

During the meeting, participants discussed strategies to strengthen national regulatory infrastructures, improve technical expertise and promote the effective implementation of international safety standards. The discussions also focused on expanding knowledge-sharing, training programmes and technical assistance to help countries develop sustainable and independent regulatory systems.

FANR highlighted the UAE’s continued commitment to supporting the IAEA’s mission of ensuring the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear and radiation technologies. The authority reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with international partners to enhance regulatory excellence and build resilient institutions capable of addressing emerging challenges in the nuclear sector.

The meeting underscored the UAE’s growing role in international nuclear governance and its ongoing contribution to advancing global nuclear safety, security and regulatory capacity through cooperation with the IAEA and its member states.
