UAE Launches Global Energy Efficiency Alliance at COP29 in Baku
Baku, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled the “Global Energy Efficiency Alliance” at COP29, an ambitious initiative aimed at doubling global energy efficiency rates annually by 2030 while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The initiative aligns with the landmark “UAE Consensus” established at COP28, which secured commitments from countries, organizations, and companies worldwide to cut carbon emissions and conserve natural resources.
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), highlighted the UAE’s leadership role in this alliance during remarks to the Emirates News Agency at the UAE’s national pavilion in Azerbaijan.
“This initiative reflects the global desire to enhance energy efficiency,” Al Olama stated, emphasizing that the UAE engaged in extensive consultations with nations worldwide, many of whom welcomed the establishment of the alliance.
The UAE will spearhead the alliance by sharing best practices in energy efficiency, promoting knowledge transfer, and fostering innovative partnerships with the private sector. Al Olama urged governments, organizations, and leaders to unite under the alliance to set ambitious goals, mobilize investments in energy efficiency projects, and develop the necessary policies and technologies to achieve sustainability objectives.
The alliance’s mission includes reducing carbon emissions and minimizing resource consumption by promoting standardization, capacity building, and public-private collaboration. A special focus will be placed on supporting African nations through shared best practices, financing mechanisms, and technological solutions critical to the continent’s development.
By championing these efforts, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to driving global sustainability, advancing energy efficiency, and shaping a low-carbon future.
