UN Welcomes Oman’s Diplomatic Efforts in Yemen Ceasefire Agreement

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The United Nations has welcomed the Sultanate of Oman’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating a ceasefire agreement between the United States and the authorities in Sana’a, Yemen. The agreement marks a significant step toward de-escalating military tensions, ensuring maritime security, and preventing further attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Stephanie Tremblay, Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations, expressed hope that the agreement would yield a positive impact on maritime navigation and support the continuity of international trade in accordance with international law.
“The United Nations appreciates the constructive role played by Oman in promoting dialogue and stability in the region,” Tremblay stated, adding that the ceasefire could serve as a foundation for broader diplomatic engagement.
Reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Yemeni conflict, the UN reiterated its support for Yemeni stakeholders in reaching a comprehensive, negotiated political settlement. The organization urged all parties to exercise restraint and engage constructively with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in the pursuit of a durable peace.
The agreement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where maritime routes remain critical for global trade. Oman’s mediation underscores its longstanding role as a neutral regional facilitator in conflict resolution efforts.
