Uzbekistan and EU Enhance Strategic Cooperation: President Mirziyoyev Receives EU Commissioner

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on March 18 received a delegation led by the European Union Commissioner for International Cooperation, Josef Sikela, who was on a working visit to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the EU Commissioner conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, to the Uzbek leader.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the rapid development of bilateral cooperation in recent years, particularly in the political, trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. They acknowledged the vast potential for further expansion and consistent strengthening of ties.

A key focus of the meeting was the early signing of a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU, which is expected to bolster the strategic partnership. Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting joint projects and programs in transport and logistics, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and water management.

The discussion also touched on practical cooperation in the processing of vital mineral resources, which holds great significance for both parties.

Moreover, attention was given to the organization of the first “Central Asia – EU” summit and the Climate Forum, scheduled to take place in Samarkand in early April this year.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on regional cooperation in Central Asia, reaffirming mutual commitment to strengthening collaborative efforts and advancing sustainable development initiatives.
