150th Anniversary Assembly

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: At the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan will host the 150th Anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a significant milestone in global parliamentary diplomacy.

The IPU Assembly, which convenes parliaments from nearly 190 countries, takes place twice a year in nations with established parliamentary traditions and strong commitments to sustainable development. This event will mark the first time the assembly is held in Central Asia, making it a historic occasion for the region.

A meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 150th IPU Assembly was recently held at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis to discuss comprehensive preparations for the event. Chaired by Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva, the meeting was attended by deputies, senators, government officials, and leaders from ministries, agencies, and the Tashkent Authority.

Uzbekistan reinstated its membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2017, and since then, the country has made notable progress in parliamentary affairs and sustainable development. Its achievements have been acknowledged by major international organizations and foreign states.

The IPU Assembly, scheduled for April 5-9, will focus on the central theme of “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice.” Key discussions will revolve around human rights protection, gender equality, scientific and technological advancements, and youth-related issues.

Senate Chairperson Narbayeva emphasized the necessity of proactive engagement and outlined crucial tasks to ensure the successful organization of the event at the highest level. This milestone assembly will further strengthen Uzbekistan’s position in global parliamentary dialogue and foster international cooperation in governance and legislative development.
