Vietnam People’s Army Participates in Moscow Parade Marking 80th Anniversary of Great Patriotic War Victory

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: The Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) made its historic debut in an overseas military parade, as a delegation of officers and soldiers took part in the grand ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of Russia’s victory in the Great Patriotic War. The parade was held in Moscow’s iconic Red Square.
Comprising 68 members, the Vietnamese military contingent was one of 13 foreign armed forces invited to participate in the event. The main formation featured 64 troops marching in an 8×8 configuration, accompanied by three personnel bearing the national flag and leading the bloc.
This marked the first time in history that the VPA has participated in an international military parade abroad.
Russia’s invitation for Vietnam to send a military delegation underscored the deep respect and high regard Moscow holds for Hanoi, as well as the enduring traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. The gesture highlighted the particularly strong ties in the field of defence cooperation.
The VPA’s participation carried significant political and diplomatic value, reinforcing strategic trust between the two militaries. It also affirmed Việt Nam’s steadfast solidarity and loyalty to nations that have supported its struggle for national defence and development.
Beyond its symbolic meaning, the VPA’s presence at the Moscow parade served as an important platform to elevate the image, stature, and capabilities of the Vietnamese armed forces on the global stage.
Also attending the commemoration were General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse Ngô Phương Ly, accompanied by a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation. Their presence alongside other world leaders further underscored the depth of Vietnam–Russia relations and the importance of the milestone celebration.
