Vietnam Reaffirms Commitment to Constructive Dialogue with US on Trade and Tariffs: PM Chính

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: In a meeting held on Saturday to continue reviewing and addressing concerns raised by the United States regarding trade and tariffs, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính reiterated Vietnam’s readiness to engage in proactive, effective, and cooperative dialogue with its partners, including the US.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam welcomes and considers the concerns and requests of its partners in the spirit of goodwill, mutual respect, and constructive engagement. “We are open to listening and addressing legitimate, appropriate, and constructive feedback,” he affirmed.

Grounding his remarks in the principles of international practice and mutual agreement, PM Chính stated that Vietnam’s approach is consistent with the rule of law and aligns with commitments made between the two countries.

Amid a complex and rapidly evolving global and regional landscape, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam’s determination to achieve its ambitious economic growth target of 8 percent or higher in 2025. He underscored the Government’s priority to maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation, safeguard major economic balances, and enhance the quality of life for the Vietnamese people.

To achieve these goals, Vietnam will continue to expand cooperation with all international partners, especially the United States, PM Chính stated. He called for mutual understanding and trust, stressing the need to address any challenges based on the principle of harmonised interests, shared risks, and mutual benefit.

“In cases where difficulties arise, both sides should engage in sincere dialogue to find practical solutions that serve the interests of both nations, their peoples, businesses, and other stakeholders,” he said.

However, he noted that any measures taken must not compromise Vietnam’s fundamental interests or international obligations. The Prime Minister reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to preserving its national independence and sovereignty while building an independent, self-reliant economy that is deeply and effectively integrated into the global system.

PM Chính also acknowledged the presence of institutional and legal obstacles that may hinder progress and proposed that both sides engage in candid discussions to identify feasible solutions. Where the issues extend beyond existing authority, he urged that recommendations be escalated to appropriate levels for timely resolution.

This approach, he said, will help dismantle institutional bottlenecks and promote legal reform and effective law enforcement — a strategic breakthrough and one of the pillars of Vietnam’s long-term development vision. It will also enhance socio-economic development and contribute to building a strong, fair, and sustainable partnership between Vietnam and the United States, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
