Vietnam, South Korea FM’s Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: In a telephone conversation held on January 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son of Vietnam and his counterpart from the South Korea, Cho Tae Yul, reaffirmed their commitment to deepening trust and collaboration between the two nations. The discussions centered around fostering high-level delegation exchanges, enhancing trade partnerships, and accelerating the effective implementation of the action programme to bolster the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the RoK.

Both Foreign Ministers pledged to facilitate Korean companies’ increased investment in Vietnam, the establishment of additional research and development centers, and the transfer of core and source technologies to Vietnam. They also agreed to work closely in leveraging the RoK’s Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) and the Economic Development Promotion Facility (EDPF) for mutual benefit.

To further enhance bilateral ties, the RoK expressed its commitment to supporting Vietnam in the development of cultural industries, fostering youth exchanges, and providing additional scholarships for Vietnamese students to pursue education in the RoK.

The Foreign Ministers of both countries also emphasized their dedication to strengthening cooperation among localities through initiatives like the Meet Korea program. The RoK pledged ongoing support for Vietnam in high-quality human resources training and affirmed its commitment to receiving more Vietnamese workers in the future.

The two sides agreed to continue coordinating closely and supporting each other at regional and international forums. Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn urged the RoK to maintain its close cooperation with Vietnam within the ASEAN-RoK partnership. He also sought the RoK’s support in executing Vietnam’s role as the coordinator for ASEAN-RoK relations in the 2021-2024 term and organizing the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in 2025.

Minister Sơn took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to Minister Cho Tae Yul on his appointment as the Republic of Korea’s Foreign Minister. He expressed his readiness to collaborate closely with Minister Cho to further strengthen cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and advance the Vietnam-RoK comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister Cho Tae Yul conveyed his delight at the continued growth of ties between the two countries, underscoring the RoK’s profound commitment to its relationship with Vietnam. He affirmed that Vietnam is an indispensable and significant partner in the RoK’s foreign policy within the region.
