Washington Post Credits Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir for Key Role in US-Iran De-escalation Efforts

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The Washington Post has acknowledged that Syed Asim Munir played a pivotal role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran and in helping finalize the draft of a potential peace agreement.
According to the report, Field Marshal Asim Munir maintained continuous contacts with the United States, Iran and Gulf countries, contributing significantly to restoring trust and facilitating dialogue between the parties.
The report further stated that his recent visit to Iran helped create a favorable atmosphere for finalizing the peace agreement draft and advancing consensus among the stakeholders.
Meanwhile, The Washington Times claimed that major progress on the draft agreement was achieved on Saturday morning, with the involved parties reportedly reaching consensus on key aspects of the document. The report noted that diplomatic activity accelerated while Field Marshal Asim Munir was visiting Iran.
In a separate report, The New York Times described Asim Munir’s recent Iran visit as high-level diplomacy, stating that Pakistan played an important role in fostering understanding between Tehran and Washington.
The newspaper added that the Pakistani leadership utilized backchannel diplomacy to help prevent a broader regional conflict and move negotiations forward.
Earlier, Marco Rubio also confirmed that he had remained in continuous contact with Field Marshal Asim Munir. Rubio further stated that an important high-level Pakistani figure was expected to visit Iran.
Following the completion of Asim Munir’s Iran visit, Donald Trump reportedly summoned his national security team to the White House for consultations.
During the meeting, President Trump is also expected to hold conference calls with leaders from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye and Egypt to discuss regional developments and diplomatic efforts.
