“No matter how historical conditions and social groups evolve, the status and role of the working class, the fundamental principle of relying wholeheartedly on the working class, and the nature and functions of China’s trade unions must remain unwavering,” Xi stressed. He noted that the most significant achievement over the past century in the theoretical innovation and practical development of the Party’s workers’ movement has been the establishment of a socialist trade union development path with Chinese characteristics. This path upholds the CPC’s overall leadership over the workers’ movement and trade unions, adheres to the fundamental principle of relying on the working class, commits to serving the Party’s central task, maintains the political and pioneering character of trade unions, strengthens their bond with the people, and insists on operating in accordance with laws and regulations. Xi affirmed that this path must be upheld over the long term.Xi highlighted that the Party’s central task defines the theme of the times for China’s workers’ movement. On the new journey of the new era, he said, it is essential to focus on promoting high-quality development and to encourage workers to pursue excellence and innovation.
He urged the workforce to embrace the wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and to comprehensively enhance the quality and skills of the national workforce. Xi also called for advancing respect for model workers, fostering a spirit of dedication and craftsmanship, promoting common prosperity, and steadily improving the well-being of employees and working people.Xi encouraged society to learn from model workers and exemplary individuals, emphasizing the importance of promoting their outstanding qualities. He also urged honorees to cherish their achievements and to continue striving for new successes.
Standing at a new historical starting point, Xi said, trade unions at all levels must advance the high-quality development of their work. He called on Party committees at all levels to strengthen and improve leadership over trade union activities, address major issues related to trade union work promptly, and create favorable conditions for trade unions to fulfill their duties effectively.
