Fidan and British Counterpart Discuss Escalating Gaza Conflict

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza during a phone call with his British counterpart, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, on Wednesday. The conversation, as reported by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli on X, centered on recent developments in Gaza and the rising regional tensions.
Minister Fidan emphasized the urgency of addressing Israel’s opposition to a ceasefire, noting the heightened risk of the conflict spreading across the region. “Israel is the party opposing the ceasefire, highlighting the risk of the conflict spreading to a regional level,” Fidan conveyed to Lammy.
Fidan also stressed the need to halt what he described as “Israel’s aggression,” calling for immediate action to stop the ongoing violence.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its military offensive on Gaza, which began following a Hamas-led blitz on October 7 of the previous year. This prolonged conflict has led to widespread devastation in Gaza, exacerbated by a severe blockade restricting access to essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medicine.
Over the past ten months, the Israeli military campaign has resulted in the deaths of nearly 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza. The international community has condemned Israel’s actions, with accusations of genocide being brought before the International Court of Justice.
As the situation in Gaza remains dire, the international call for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief continues to grow louder.
