UAE Tops Arab World in 2026 Environmental Performance Index

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates has been ranked first among Arab countries in the 2026 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), reflecting the success of its long-term environmental policies and sustainable development initiatives aimed at addressing climate change, protecting ecosystems, and improving environmental health.

The Environmental Performance Index, compiled by researchers at Yale and Columbia universities, evaluates countries using 47 performance indicators across 12 categories under three principal policy objectives: Environmental Health, Ecosystem Vitality, and Climate Change. The UAE’s strong performance was driven by balanced progress across these areas, supported by significant investments in environmental infrastructure, strengthened regulatory frameworks, and the adoption of advanced technologies.

Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak said the achievement reflects the UAE’s longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability, inspired by the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and reinforced through national initiatives such as the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy. She noted that the country’s integrated approach combines economic growth with environmental protection to ensure sustainable development for future generations.

The minister highlighted the UAE’s continued investments in renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, water security, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience, emphasizing that these efforts have strengthened the country’s position as a regional leader in environmental stewardship and innovation.

The latest ranking underscores the UAE’s growing international recognition for advancing sustainability through comprehensive government policies, strategic investments, and partnerships that support climate action while promoting economic and social development.
