UAE Advocates for Enhanced Arab Economic Cooperation
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Economy, has reiterated the United Arab Emirates’ strong commitment to bolstering Arab cooperation, with a focus on driving greater economic progress across the region. His remarks came during the opening session of the 114th regular session of the Arab Economic and Social Council (AESC) held today at the General Secretariat of the Arab League’s headquarters.
Al Kait emphasized the UAE’s dedication to fostering collaborative efforts among Arab nations to ensure sustainable economic growth. He highlighted the significance of the topics under consideration at the meeting, noting that they would help chart a path for more effective Arab collaboration by leveraging the region’s abundant resources and potential.
The two-day AESC meeting will address key economic and social issues, with a particular focus on the files to be presented at the upcoming Arab League Summit scheduled to take place in Baghdad in 2025. Among the key agenda items are discussions on the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and developments in the Arab Customs Union. The meeting will also explore challenges and opportunities related to enhancing intra-Arab trade and investment, as well as proposals to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including tourism, antiquities, and space research.
Al Kait underscored the importance of these discussions in aligning the economic strategies of member states, aiming to position Arab nations as influential players on the global economic stage. He called for continuous efforts to build on these initiatives, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches that align with the broader objectives of the Arab League.
