Foreign Ministers of Iran and Ireland Discuss West Asia Situation

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: In a recent phone call, Foreign Ministers Micheál Martin of Ireland and Abbas Araghchi of Iran exchanged views on the current situation in West Asia.

On Monday, Micheál Martin emphasized the need for restraint and expressed concern over the escalating violence in Gaza. In a statement posted on his X account, Martin urged Iran to use its influence positively and reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire both in Gaza and the wider region. He warned against the risk of a broader regional conflict and underscored that such a conflict would complicate the pursuit of peace.

Martin also highlighted the European Union’s readiness to engage with Iran if it demonstrates a genuine commitment to regional peace. He congratulated Araghchi on his recent appointment as Iran’s Foreign Minister and wished him success in his role.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Martin voiced Ireland’s concern about the spread of tension, particularly in Lebanon, and called for an immediate ceasefire and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In response, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed Iran’s commitment to de-escalating regional tensions. He supported any agreement reached by Hamas and the Palestinian people and condemned what he described as attempts by Israeli leaders to escalate violence. Araghchi stressed the need for immediate and effective measures to halt the violence in Gaza.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the ongoing crisis through diplomatic means.
