Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Cancer Awareness and Treatment on World Cancer Day
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to combating cancer, emphasizing the need for awareness, early detection, and accessible treatment to address the disease, which remains the second leading cause of death globally.
In his message on World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4, the prime minister expressed solidarity with people worldwide in raising awareness and inspiring action against cancer. He highlighted Pakistan’s progress in cancer research, treatment, and patient care, crediting advancements in medical science, early diagnosis, and improved healthcare facilities for better patient outcomes.
“Cancer remains a major public health challenge, and we must continue our collective efforts to prevent, diagnose, and treat this disease effectively,” he stated.
Prime Minister Sharif underscored the importance of proactive health measures, urging Pakistanis to seek timely medical consultations and screenings. While some risk factors, such as genetic predisposition and environmental influences, are beyond human control, he stressed that lifestyle changes, regular exercise, and early identification can significantly reduce cancer risks.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening cancer care infrastructure, he emphasized investments in research and ensuring affordable, quality treatment for all. Pakistan, he noted, continues to collaborate with healthcare professionals, researchers, and international organizations to enhance its capacity for cancer prevention and treatment.
“Pakistan recognizes the importance of global cooperation in tackling this menace, and we have undertaken meaningful and result-oriented collaborations with the international community to advance research, innovation, and medical breakthroughs,” the prime minister stated.
On this occasion, he called on all stakeholders to unite in efforts to promote cancer awareness, support those affected, and take proactive steps toward a healthier, cancer-free future for the nation.
