Uzbekistan and Malaysia Strengthen Ties Through Education and Economic Cooperation
Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: The official visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia on February 4-5, at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, further reinforced the longstanding ties between the two nations. The visit marked a significant step in enhancing cooperation across socio-economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
As part of the visit, key events such as an Education Forum, business meetings, and tourism exhibitions were held, leading to the signing of several mutually beneficial agreements. Among these, notable agreements were concluded between Termez State University, Kedah Agro Holdings, and Menteri Besar Incorporated.
A major outcome of the visit was the launch of a $10 million agricultural and aquaculture project in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, aimed at implementing scientific approaches to enhance the sector. A delegation from Kedah Agro Holdings is scheduled to visit the region in April 2024 to assess its potential and explore further collaboration.
In the field of education, Termez State University strengthened its partnership with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) by agreeing to develop joint educational programs. As part of this initiative, 30 Uzbek students will travel to Malaysia to participate in UUM’s winter school program.
Additionally, in December 2023, four professors from Termez State University visited leading Malaysian universities to study their academic systems, explore strategies for international ranking inclusion, and engage in professional development programs.
A landmark achievement under the new agreement is the introduction of Malaysia-based curricula in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region. For the first time, students will have the opportunity to obtain dual degrees from Termez State University and Universiti Utara Malaysia, significantly enhancing educational prospects in the region.
The visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, with both nations committed to expanding collaboration in education, agriculture, and economic development.
