Riyadh Hosts Event Honoring the Legacy of Muhammad al-Khwarizmi at STEAM Festival

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: An event dedicated to celebrating the monumental legacy of Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, the renowned mathematician, astronomer, and geographer, was held as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) Festival in Riyadh. The event, organized under the patronage of King Salman, underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting science and innovation on the global stage.
As reported by SPA, the occasion focused on al-Khwarizmi’s pivotal role in advancing the scientific center of Baghdad, particularly the renowned “Bayt al-Hikmah” (House of Wisdom). This institution played a key role in preserving and expanding knowledge during the Islamic Golden Age. Special attention was given to the scholarly contributions of al-Khwarizmi, especially in mathematics, algebra, and algorithms – fields in which he laid the foundational principles that continue to influence modern scientific and technological progress.
The event also highlighted the lasting impact of al-Khwarizmi’s work, noting that while more than 20 of his scholarly works are attributed to him, only 10 have survived through the centuries. Organizers emphasized that the primary goal of the event was to inspire students and future generations by showcasing al-Khwarizmi’s achievements, which have had a profound and enduring influence on the fields of mathematics and technology.
This tribute to one of history’s greatest minds reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of learning and scientific inquiry, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a global leader in science and innovation.
