Kazakhstan and France to Strengthen Cooperation in Combating Illegal Migration

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Deputies of the Majilis, the lower house of Kazakhstan’s Parliament, are set to deliberate on the draft law titled On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the French Republic on the Readmission of Persons, according to media reports.

The agreement, signed in Paris in November 2024, establishes a legal framework for bilateral cooperation on the admission and transit of individuals who do not meet the legal requirements for entry or stay in either Kazakhstan or France.

Speaking on the matter, Majilis Deputy Magerram Magerramov stated that the draft law is intended to enhance the efficiency of measures aimed at combating illegal migration by facilitating cooperation between the competent authorities of both countries. He added that the agreement lays the groundwork for a coordinated response to migration-related challenges while ensuring respect for legal norms and international standards.

“The agreement will contribute to improving coordination between Kazakhstan and France in managing migration flows and create favorable conditions for the return and transit of individuals in accordance with national laws,” Magerramov said.

He further noted that the Majilis Committee on Legislation, Legal and Judicial Reform is prepared to issue a conclusion on the proposed draft law, which is seen as a significant step in strengthening bilateral legal cooperation.

The upcoming debate follows earlier discussions between Kazakhstan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on joint efforts to prevent illegal migration and ensure adherence to international legal commitments.

The ratification of the readmission agreement is expected to reinforce Kazakhstan’s commitment to international cooperation in migration governance and contribute to regional and global stability.
