Romanian Foreign Minister and President Visit Austria to Revive Bilateral Ties and Deepen Cooperation

Salzburg, The Gulf Observer: Romanian Foreign Minister, accompanied by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, visited Salzburg, Austria, yesterday to initiate a new phase in Romania-Austria relations following a period of strained ties. The visit marks a renewed commitment to mutual cooperation, anchored in restoring lasting friendship and trust between the two nations.
The Romanian delegation emphasized shared strategic interests, highlighting the importance of improving bilateral trade, institutional collaboration, and community support. Romania’s economic ties with Austria are substantial, with Austrian investments in Romania exceeding €5.6 billion and over 8,700 Austrian companies operating in the country. Trade exchanges between the two nations currently stand at €5.8 billion.
Austria is home to over 150,000 Romanians, making them the second largest foreign community in the country. Key priorities discussed included enhancing institutional communication regarding insurance, pensions, and education, and facilitating Romanian companies’ access to the Austrian market.
Cultural ties were also highlighted, with both sides expressing the desire to further strengthen cultural exchanges. The Romanian Foreign Minister held a special meeting with the Romanian community and consular team in Salzburg, expressing gratitude for their ideas and warm welcome.
President Nicușor Dan was received as Guest of Honour by Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen at the Salzburg Festival. He is also scheduled to meet Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, Secretary of State Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and other high-ranking officials during the visit.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry and Presidential Administration were acknowledged for their coordination efforts in organizing this important diplomatic mission, reinforcing Romania’s vision of a strong presence within a united Europe.
