Azerbaijan

Tianjin, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday in Tianjin, China, to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.

Prime Minister Sharif, speaking on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s political support and solidarity during India’s military aggression against Pakistan in April–May this year.

President Aliyev reaffirmed the deep fraternal relations between the two nations, congratulating Pakistan on its victory over India. He noted that India had attempted to retaliate against Azerbaijan in international organizations in response to Baku’s stance, but emphasized that such actions held no importance compared to the value of brotherly ties with Pakistan.

The Pakistani leader recalled his visits to Azerbaijan and highlighted the significance of the trilateral meeting in Lachin involving Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan. In response, President Aliyev underlined that concrete steps were being taken to implement the decisions reached in the trilateral format.

Prime Minister Sharif also congratulated President Aliyev on the progress achieved in normalizing relations and advancing the peace agenda with Armenia, describing it as a historic milestone. President Aliyev thanked him for the remarks, stressing the importance of these achievements in securing lasting regional peace.

The Azerbaijani head of state further underscored the significance of his recent visit to Washington in fostering Azerbaijan–U.S. relations, particularly acknowledging the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in supporting these processes.

The meeting also reviewed the activities of the Azerbaijan–Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, focusing on the advancement of economic and trade relations in line with their close political ties. Both sides emphasized the importance of practical cooperation, with the implementation of a project in Pakistan modeled on Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Khidmet” hailed as a positive step forward.
